Guinea pig request upsets the Kremlin
A 13-year-old girl who asked Russian president Dmitry Medvedev for a new pet guinea pig, has been forced to write a letter of apology for daring to waste the leader’s time on such petty matters.
Nastya Ivliyeva, who posted her request on the president’s official website, was called to her school headmaster’s office where Kremlin officials abused her so badly, she burst into tears.
But when her parents wrote to President Medvedev complaining about the heavy handed treatment, he sent her not one, but two guinea pigs and a cage.
Guinness scratches longest nail entry
A US woman who was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the world’s longest fingernails has lost them in a car crash.
Lee Redmond, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was seriously injured when she was thrown from the car and her long nails were broken off.
Ms Redmond, who has featured in a TV program based on the Guinness Book of Records and on the Ripley’s Believe it or Not program, last cut her nails in 1979.
According to the Guinness Book of Records entry, her fingernails had grown to a total of more than 28 feet. Her right thumbnail measured a massive two feet, 11 inches.
Her listing will now be ‘scratched’.
Donor fathered 30 children
THIRTY lesbians in South Australia were impregnated with sperm from the same man, and authorities fear it could lead to an epidemic of accidental incest when the children reach maturity.
The children, who all live in Adelaide, are now aged ten, and their mothers hold regular picnics where they mix together, but the children have not been told they are related because the sperm donor asked for anonimity.
South Australia’s fertility clinics do not cater to homosexuals, and the service is reserved for infertile couples or those at risk of transmitting a serious defect.
As a result, many lesbians are forced to ‘go it alone’ and ask friends to impregnate them, or find willing donors on the internet.
Shocked medical authorities who discovered that sperm from the same man had been used to impregnate 30 women in the same community, have asked the government to repeal the regulations to prevent similar situations from recurring.
They fear the children could unknowingly commit incest when they reach maturity in the next six or seven years.
